Sony has revealed the official pricing and pre-order dates for those interested in owning the Sony PlayStation VR. Even though the headset will be available a little bit later than the timeframe expected (October 2016), pre-orders for the launch bundle commenced March 22.
The Sony PlayStation VR Launch Bundle goes for a price tag of US$ 499 at participating retailers. This bundle contains all the contents in the PS VR core bundle along with PS Camera, 2 PlayStation Move motion controllers and the PlayStation VR Worlds (disc).
The company is also offering the US$ 399-priced PlayStation VR Core bundle separately. This contains PS VR headset, PS VR cables, Stereo Headphones and PlayStation VR Demo Disc. It will be available for pre-order beginning March 29.
The Sony PlayStation VR headset only requires the PlayStation 4 to get started. It features a 5.7-inch OLED display with screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (FHD), 120 Hz refresh rate, 100-degree field of view with latency at under 18ms and 360-degree tracking sensors.
It is also compatible with the PS Move controllers, DualShock 4 and requires the PlayStation Move camera. About 230 developers are building contents for the PS VR and by launch more than 50 games will be available. The Playroom VR, which will include six games, from Sony’s Japanese studio will be available as a free download for PS VR owners at launch.
