Google has reportedly changed the name of its popular yet-not-too successful Google Glass project to Project Aura. The company is said to be working on new Wearable technology and is hiring staff from Amazon’s veiled Lab126.
According to Wall Street Journal (WSJ) citing sources, Project Aura is the new name for Google’s Wearable projects which includes the next Glass version and other new wearable technology. The division is still headed by fashion industry veteran, Ivy Ross who headed the Glass team in 2014.
However, she reports to Tony Fadell, Google’s current head of connected-home business – Nest. The future of the project is unclear once Google becomes a subsidiary of Alphabet. To solidify efforts, the search giant has been hiring experts in software development, engineers and product managers from Amazon’s hardware division – Lab126 to join the Project Aura team.
The initial version of the Google Glass didn’t quite get stuck on user’s and the company stopped selling the device to the publicly in January because of the concerns raised pertaining to issues with privacy.
The company however still offers an improved version of the Google Glass to firms in industries such as Energy, Heath care and manufacturing.
