Qualcomm announces midrange Snapdragon 617 and Snapdragon 430 processors

Qualcomm has officially announced two new midrange processors – the Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430. Both chipset versions support the freshly announced Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 and are fashioned to deliver high-end performance and experiences in affordable, high- and mid-tier devices.

Commenting on the new midrange snapdragon processors, senior vice president, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. – Alex Katouzian said;

“As smartphones and tablets continue to spread to all corners of the globe, we recognize that users are becoming more discerning in what they want. The introduction of these new processors is a clear indication that we are listening to the needs of our customers who want ever improving cameras, faster connectivity, and better battery life across all available price points”.

 

Qualcomm Snapdragon 617

Starting with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 which is likened to the Snapdragon 618 and Snapdragon 620, is designed using the 28nm production process and is expected to power devices before the end of the year.

It has an octa-core CPU (8 x Cortex A53 cores) clocked up to 1.5GHz with Adreno 405 GPU, Hexagon 546 DSP and Dual Image Signal processor supporting up to 21MP camera. It also integrates the Snapdragon X8 LTE modem with LTE Cat. 7 download speeds (up to 300Mbps) and 2x20MHz carrier aggregation. 

Qualcomm Snapdragon 430

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor comes next but won’t be powering any devices yet until Q2 2016, however, Qualcomm say it is worth the wait. It is the first chipset in the 4xx range to use the latest gen Adreno 505 GPU.

It uses an octa-core CPU (8 x Cortex A53 cores) clocked up to 1.2GHz, Dual-ISPs with up to 21MP camera support, has support for 1080p Full HD displays, video capture and playback; and Hexagon 536 DSP to ensure low power consumption. 

The Snapdragon 430 integrates the Snapdragon X6 LTE modem which guarantees LTE Cat. 4 download speeds, LTE Cat. 5 upload speeds and 2x10MHz carrier aggregation. 

Extra: Qualcomm also celebrated milestones for the Snapdragon 210 and Snapdragon 410. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 has been included in more than 200 mobile designs either shipped or yet to be launched. 

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 which is heralded for bringing 64-bit computing power and LTE connectivity to emerging regions, is now available in more than 550 mobile device designs and has also powered more than 200 million devices globally from more than 60 OEMs.
