Along with the Snapdragon 617 and Snapdragon 430, Qualcomm announced the next generation fast charging technology – the Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. It would be available in the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430, 617, 618, 620 and 820 processors; it will start showing up in mobile devices – smartphones and tablets by 2016.
The Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 is based on the algorithm – Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage (INOV) which allows a device to determine what level of power it needs and apportioning the right voltage thus achieving maximum efficiency. It supports voltage range: 200mV increments, from 3.6V to 20V.
The Quick Charge 3.0 technology is designed to recharge up to four times faster than conventional charging and compared to its predecessors – it is up to 38 percent more efficient than the Quick Charge 2.0 and twice as fast as the Quick Charge 1.0. It maintains compatibility with the Quick Charge 2.0 and Quick Charge 1.0 devices as well as support for a wide range of connectors including the USB Type-C, USB Type-A and proprietary connectors.
Looking back, the company’s first fast charging solution – the Qualcomm Quick Charge 1.0 was up to 40 percent faster than conventional charging while the Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 took the advantage up to 75 percent and also saw the introduction of fast charging compatible accessories including wall chargers, car chargers and power controllers.
