Qualcomm has announced the Quick Charge 4+, successor to last year’s Quick Charge 4.0, which was launched along with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Mobile platform. The Nubia Z17 is the smartphone announced yet with this fast charging standard on-board.
The Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ brings all the benefits of the previous standard (Quick Charge 4), plus three major improvements:
- The first is Dual Charge, an existing option in previous quick charge editions, but now more powerful. It divides the charge current across two management Integrated Circuits, allowing for reduced charge time and lower temperature.
- Intelligent Thermal Balancing is next. This feature helps keeps the temperature of the chipset and device down by moving current through the coolest paths thereby eliminating hot spots.
- The third enhancement is Advanced Safety Features, which simultaneously monitors both the case and connector temperature levels to prevent over-heating and short-circuit damage.
The combination of all these on a device makes the Quick Charge 4+ charge up to 15 percent faster, or 30 percent more efficiently when compared to Quick Charge 4. A device can go from 0 to 50% in just 15 minutes and charging is also up to 3 degrees Celsius cooler.
Accessories labelled 4+ are compatible with previous versions of Quick Charge.
