Qualcomm Technologies has announced the first 5G mobile platform in the 4-series – the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480, which is set to power commercial devices arriving by early 2021. It is equipped with Snapdragon X51 5G Modem-RF System to provide support for mmWave and Sub-6 GHz 5G, SA and NSA modes, and Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS) as well as Qualcomm FastConnect 6200 for 2×2 Wi-Fi (dual Wi-Fi antennas) and Wi-Fi 6 features.
Manufactured using the 8nm process, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 5G Mobile Platform packs an octa-core CPU (2x Kryo 540 Prime CPU cores clocked @2GHz (Cortex-A76 based) + 6x Kryo 560 Efficiency CPU cores clocked @1.8GHz (Cortex A55-based)), Adreno 619 GPU, and Qualcomm Hexagon 686 Processor. When compared to previous generation, it delivers up to 100% improvement in CPU performance and up to 70% performance improvement in Artificial Intelligence (AI).
For photography, it is equipped with the Qualcomm Spectra 345 ISP, the first in triple ISP in a 4-series and supports up to 64MP single camera and up to 25MP dual camera. The rest of the specs include support for HD+ or FHD+ resolution @120Hz, LPDDR4x @2133MHz memory, eMMC 5.1/UFS 2.2 storage, USB-C, Qualcomm aptX audio, Bluetooth 5.1, Dual-frequency GPS and NavIC, Qualcomm Sensing Hub and Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ technology.
