Following the recent launch of the Snapdragon 888 mobile platform for premium mobile devices at the Snapdragon Tech Summit Digital 2020, Qualcomm Technologies has announced that new Snapdragon 678 mobile platform will deliver premium-level experiences to mid-tier devices. It is expected to arrive in consumer devices starting 2021.
Manufactured using the 11nm LPP process, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 678 mobile platform ranks ahead of the Snapdragon 675 (11nm LPP) and Snapdragon 670 (10nm LPP). It has the same Qualcomm Kryo 460 CPU core and Adreno 612 GPU, however, the former’s clock speed has gone up to 2.2GHz and latter’s performance has increased.
It integrates the Qualcomm Spectra 250L ISP to offer up to 25MP single camera, up to 16MP dual cameras and 4K UHD video at 30fps. The 3rd-gen Qualcomm AI engine also contribute to smarter photography experiences and camera-centric features such as Portrait Mode (Bokeh), Low-Light Capture and Laser Autofocus.
The rest of the key features include Snapdragon X12 LTE Modem with advanced carrier aggregation (CA) for up to 600Mbps download speeds and up to 150Mbps upload speeds; up to 8GB memory (2×16 bit LPDDR4x 1866MHz); Qualcomm Hexagon 685 DSP; Qualcomm All-Ways Aware technology, up to FHD+ screen resolution with 60Hz refresh rate an Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ technology.
