Qualcomm has introduced a new Snapdragon 700 Series of processors to bring premium features to a number of mid-range smartphones. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 Mobile Platform, the first from the 700 series, brings a number of improvements over the Snapdragon 600 series.
Built using the power efficient 10nm process, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 Mobile Platform promises to deliver 2x overall improvement in AI performance, up to 20-percent performance uplift, 15-percent faster app launch times, 25-percent faster web browsing, 35-percent faster graphics and better battery optimisation compared to previous generation – the Snapdragon 660.
The octa-core processor packs 2x 2.2GHz Kryo 360 (performance) and 6x 1.7GHz Kryo 360 (efficiency) CPUs paired with Adreno 616 GPU, Spectra 250 camera ISP and Hexagon 685 DSP. It integrates the new Snapdragon X15 LTE modem, which is engineered to reach peak download speeds of 800Mbps.
The aforementioned 2x overall improvement in AI performance is powered by Qualcomm’s new multi-core AI Engine to deliver cutting-edge camera, voice recognition, and gaming applications. Also, the Qualcomm Spectra 250 ISP is engineered to support up to 32MP single camera, up to 20MP dual camera and video capture up to Ultra HD 4K @30fps as well as active depth sensing for features like face unlock.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 Mobile Platform also includes the Quick Charge 4+ technology, which powers up devices from 0 to 50 percent battery in just 15 minutes. OEMs are expected to begin shipping devices will the processor starting Q2 2018.
