Qualcomm has added yet another entrant to its 7-Series mobile platform for affordable high-tier smartphones. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 5G mobile platform, as it is known, direct successor to the Snapdragon 765G Mobile 5G (7nm) Platform but sits just below the Snapdragon 780G 5G mobile platform. It is designed to deliver accelerated artificial intelligence (AI), enhanced gaming capabilities and stunning media (photo and video) experiences.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 5G (6nm) Mobile platform features the Kryo 670 octa CPU cores which brings about up to 40% increase in performance when compared to the 765G and the Adreno 642L GPU offers up to 40% faster graphics rendering when compared to the Adreno 620 GPU. The octa-core configuration consists of 1x ARM Cortex-A78-based Prime performance core, 3x ARM Cortex-A78 Gold cores and 4x Cortex-A55 efficiency cores.
The platform is fitted with the latest 6th-gen Qualcomm AI Engine aided with the Qualcomm Hexagon 770 processor to deliver up to 12 TOPs and twice the performance per Watt when compared to its predecessor. It incorporates a Triple ISP – the same one used in the Snapdragon 888 mobile platform – to offer multiple photos or videos capture, and 4K HDR10+ video capturing.
Connectivity-wise, the Snapdragon X53 5G Modem-RF System delivers sub-6 and mmWave 5G capabilities. Others include Qualcomm FastConnect 6700 Connectivity System (Wi-Fi 6/6E – up to 2.9 Gbps, and Bluetooth 5.2), Qualcomm Snapdragon Sound technology suite, and Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite Gaming features including Variable Rate Shading (VRS) and Qualcomm Game Quick Touch. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G Mobile platform arrive in commercial devices from Honor, iQOO, Motorola, OPPO, Realme, Xiaomi, and others starting Q2 2021.
