Qualcomm Technologies has been actively ramping up the amount of 5G mobile platforms available to device makers to choose from. The San Diego-based company has announced a new 7-series 5G mobile platform – the Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G to make premium tier experiences such as 6th-gen Qualcomm AI engine and Qualcomm Spectra 570 triple ISP available to a wider audience.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G 5G Mobile Platform is built using the same 5nm (5LPE) process technology as the top-tier Snapdragon 888 mobile platform; however, its octa-core configuration includes 1x Kryo 670 Prime CPU, 3x Kryo performance CPUs and 4x Kryo Efficiency CPUs. The Prime and Performance CPUs are based on the ARM Cortex-A78 processors while the efficiency CPUs are based on the ARM Cortex-A55 processors.
It features the new Qualcomm Spectra 570 (triple Image Signal Processor (ISP) and comes with the optimized Snapdragon X53 5G Modem-RF built-in for 3.3Gbps peak download speeds on sub-6 GHz frequencies as well as Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 Connectivity System to support both Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E.
The 6th-gen Qualcomm AI engine coupled with Qualcomm Hexagon 770 processor delivers up to 12 TOPs AI performance – 2x the performance of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G / Snapdragon 768G. The rest of the specs include Qualcomm Snapdragon Sound technology, 2nd-gen Qualcomm Sensing Hub, and Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite Gaming. Devices powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G 5G Mobile Platform will arrive in Q2 2021.
