Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform – Full Spec Details

During the second day of the just concluded Snapdragon Tech Summit 2018, Qualcomm revealed more details about its upcoming flagship ‘8 Mobile Platform series’, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855. It is not only the world’s first commercial 5G mobile platform but also first to support the new Qualcomm 3D Sonic Sensor, world’s first commercial under-display ultrasonic fingerprint solution.

One of the highlights of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform is the support for multi-gigabit 5G. It is manufactured using the 7nm TSMC process and expected to offer long-lasting battery life as well as superior experiences in areas such as imaging, audio, gaming and XR.

The chipset offers 45% improvement in performance and 20% faster graphics when compared to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845. It features Adreno 640 GPU, Hexagon 690 Processor and next-gen Kryo 485 octa-core CPU featuring a tri-cluster design. The first cluster consists of one single core (dubbed the Prime core) clocked at 2.84GHz; three performance cores (Cortex-A76 based) clocked at 2.42GHz and the last four efficiency cores (Cortex-A55 based) clocked at 1.8GHz.

The platform is equipped with Snapdragon X50 5G modem (supports Sub-6 GHz and mmWave frequency bands), Snapdragon X24 LTE modem for multi-gigabit 4G connectivity and both Qualcomm Wi-Fi 6-ready and 60 GHz Wi-Fi mobile platform for mmWave Wi-Fi support.

It also integrates the world’s first CV-ISP, the Qualcomm Spectra 380 ISP to provide cutting-edge computational photography and video capture features. It also offers an upgraded entertainment platform for more realistic gaming, improved cinematics, and higher performing XR.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform is expected to begin shipping in commercial devices starting first half of 2019 (1H 2019). The company confirmed the OnePlus 2019 flagship will be the first to use this chip.

Commencing on the launch, Alex Katouzian, senior vice president and general manager, mobile, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc said;
