Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 865 Plus (styled as Snapdragon 865+) mobile platform – successor to the Snapdragon 865, which has powered more than 140 premium smartphones till date. Just like its predecessor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus is designed to offer truly global 5G (5G mmWave & sub-6 GHz, SA & NSA modes), cutting-edge AI engine, and superior gameplay thanks to the Snapdragon Elite Gaming premium features.
It will provide three key performance enhancements over the 865 and expected to power devices such as the upcoming ROG Phone 3 from ASUS and Lenovo’s first Legion gaming smartphone. The Kryo 585 CPU on the 7nm chip is clocked up to 3.1GHz (it was 2.84GHz on the 865) for a 10% performance boost and the Adreno 650 GPU offers up to 10% faster graphics rendering.
The chipset is paired with the same Snapdragon X55 5G Modern-RF System for 5G connectivity; however, Qualcomm’s FastConnect 6900 connectivity suite has been added to provide Wi-Fi speeds up to 3.6Gbps. The new Snapdragon 865 Plus (Snapdragon 865+) is expected to arrive in commercial devices by Q3 2020, which means there is low chances of its presence on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series.
