Recap: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx 7nm PC Platform

While the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 mobile platform took all the shine at the long concluded Snapdragon Tech Summit 2018, the company also introduced the world’s first 7nm PC platform, the Snapdragon 8cx. It is designed to power all forms of Always On, Always Connected PCs.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Compute Platform is the company’s first chip to be built for Windows. It promises increased performance and multi-day battery life, always-on connectivity, doubled memory interface and larger cache than previous compute platforms.

It is built using the 7nm process and features the new octa-core Qualcomm Kryo 495 CPU, Adreno 680 GPU, Qualcomm Aqstic audio technology with Qualcomm aptX HD, Snapdragon X24 LTE modem (LTE Cat. 20) and supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ technology for super fast charging on the go.

The PC platform supports up to 16GB of RAM, 2nd-gen USB 3.1 over Type C, 3rd-gen PCI-E for limitless peripherals and also ready for Windows 10 enterprise customers. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx is expected to begin shipping in commercial devices by Q3 2019.

Commenting on the launch, senior vice president and general manager of mobile for Qualcomm Technologies, Alex Katouzian said;

As the fastest Snapdragon platform ever, the Snapdragon 8cx will allow our customers to offer a powerful computing experience of multi-day battery life and multi-gigabit connectivity, in new thin, light and fanless design for consumers and the enterprise.”
