Raspberry Pi 3 with Built-in Wi-Fi and 64-Bit Quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 CPU, Costs $35

Couple of months after announcing the Pi Zero, Raspberry has announced the third-gen Raspberry Pi – the Raspberry Pi 3. The successor to the Pi 2 retains similar size and most of the specs details of its predecessor but improves in areas such as the processing power and connectivity.

The Raspberry Pi 3 relies on a faster quad-core Broadcom BCM2837 ARM Cortex-A53 64-bit processor having 10 times the performance of that on the Raspberry Pi 1 and up to 50 – 60% increase in performance in 32-bit mode versus the Pi 2. Compatibility with the earlier versions – Raspberry Pi 1 and Pi 2 is assured, and to make room for the antenna, the location of the LEDs has moved to the other side of the SD card socket.

Raspberry Facts: The Original 256MB Raspberry Pi Model B was released in 2012. Since then the company has grown from a handful of volunteers to over 60 full time employees and has managed to sell over 8 million units (including three million units of the Raspberry Pi 2).

The Pi 3 has the Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.1 built-in; the addition of Wi-Fi equals the fact that there would be no need for seeking Ethernet connection for Internet access while that of Bluetooth allows connecting to a wireless keyboard or mouse as well as other sensors and devices.

The Raspberry Pi 3 is available for the same price tag as the Pi 2 ($35) from the company’s partners – element14 and RS Components , as well as other resellers.
