Razer’s second edition of its flagship gaming smartphone phone – the Razer Phone 2 has gone official. It retains the same 5.7-inch QHD IGZO LCD display from Sharp with 16:9 aspect ratio and 120GHz variable refresh rate. It also supports DCI-P3 colour space and HDR content, and is brighter than its predecessor (up to 645 nits brightness).
The Razer Phone 2 sports a CNC-crafted aluminium alloy body frame with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 glass rear cover. It packs dual Dolby-tuned front Stereo speakers, IP67-rating (water and dust resistance) and in response to notifications, the rear Razer logo glows with RGB lights (this is powered by Razer’s Chroma technology).
The gaming phone relies on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 octa-core mobile platform paired with 8GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB built-in UFS storage (expandable up to 1TB via microSD). It uses a Vapour Chamber Cooling system to allow heat spread evenly across the phone via a custom vapor chamber.
For photography, there are two 12MP Sony cameras – one with f/1.75 wide-angle lens, Dual PDAF and OIS and the other with f/2.6 telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom and dual tone LED flash. The front camera is a 8MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture.
The Razer Phone 2 is backed by a 4,000mAh battery with support for Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+ fast charging as well as 15W wireless charging. There is no 3.5m audio jack but a with 24-bit DAC Audio Adapter is available and it boots near-stock Android Oreo 8.1 OS along with Nova Launcher Prime, Game Booster feature and Razer Cortex app.
Razer also announced plans to release Android 9.0 Pie update in the nearest future. It is open to pre-orders for a price tag starting at $799.99 (£779.99 in the UK and €849.99 in Europe) and comes in two finishes: Classy Mirror Black (64GB) and Rugged Satin Finish (128GB).
* The 128GB Rugged Satin version is available for a $100 extra and will be available at a later date.
