Roundup: Sony Xperia Z4 supposed specs – IP68, 20.7MP camera and Android 5.0 Lollipop OS

Early this week’s, reports surfaced that Sony is open to selling its mobile unit (or possibly join up a joint venture) as the section is not making profit as expected. There is no deal in place as at press time but the company is open to ideas needed to resuscitate its ailing mobile and TV business.

Despite the company’s struggles in the mobile and TV unit, this won’t stop the Sony Xperia Z4 and it’s other variants from debuting. Last year we brought rumoured specs of the device but this week see the device get certified on the FCC in the US and certified by its Japanese equivalent – the Japanese communication ministry. It’s certification in Japan means the device would be available with NTT DoCoMo, SoftBank and KDDI.

The Xperia Z4 is one of the anticipated flagship device for 2015; it is expected to feature a 5.2-inch display with one model sporting a (2560 x 1440 pixels) Quad HD resolution (565ppi) and the other model sports (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD resolution (424ppi). BOth models will have the 2GHz octa-core Qualcomm snapdragon 810 processor (64-bit).

The device would reportedly feature 4GB of RAM in the US; Asia and European versions would get 3GB of RAM. The main camera is a 20.7MP sensor from Sony itself and a front facing 5MP front camera for selfies. It would be dust and waterproof hence its IP68 rating; will run on Android 5.0 Lollipop OS and is backed by a 3400mAh battery. White, Black, Blue and silver are the expected colour options.

Also expected is the Sony Xperia Z4 Compact, Xperia Z4 tablet and Xperia Z4 Ultra. Since these devices didn’t make it to the CES this year, it is expected to debut at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 in March.
