Even though it is unconfirmed; Xiaomi is reported to be working on its next flagship device, it could either be the Xiaomi Mi 4s or the Xiaomi Mi 5. An image of the proposed smartphone has been spotted online and more unconfirmed specs details has surfaced.
Perhaps the most pressing of the details, Xiaomi is considering protecting the Xiaomi Mi 5 with a sapphire display. However, DigiTimes reports that if the company goes ahead with the plan it would have problems with production as there is a current shortage in the supply of sapphire in relation to its demand.
The Xiaomi Mi 4S or the Mi 5 could feature a 5.7-inch 1440 x 2560 pixels Quad-HD display, a Qualcomm snapdragon 810 processor (64-bit), 3GB of RAM, 16GB/64GB of internal storage and a 20.7MP rear camera.
The company is reported to be working on a limited edition smartphone with sapphire display back in August with only 50,000 units of the device set to be produced. This could mean the Xiaomi Mi 5 would come in two versions – a more regular version and a more premium version with sapphire display.
It is expected to make its debut by January at the CES 2015 event in Las Vegas. 2014 has not been short of smartphones with sapphire display – there is the Huawei Ascend P7 with Sapphire Display (Limited Edition) and the Kyocera Brigadier with Sapphire Shield Display.
