Samsung in collaboration with Nike has announced they would be bringing the Nike+ Running app to the Samsung Gear S smartwatch. The Gear S marks the first wearable from the Korean company with round display and has a standalone sim functionality (can make calls).
With the Gear S able to work even when not connected to a smartphone, makes the Nike App able to exploit its capabilities. The app would use the GPS and 3G feature of the smartwatch to display real-time statistics, track user progress, map user runs, track distance, track speed and ability to share stats through social networks.
The Samsung Gear S features a 2.0-inch (360 x 480 pixels) Super AMOLED display, powered by a 1.0GHz Dual-Core processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB of inbuilt storage and a 300mAh battery which provides juice enough to last up to 2 days of usage.
The Gear S measures 39.8 x 58.3 x 12.5 mm, runs on Tizen based wearable platform and is IP67 certified (dust resistant and waterproof). One feature which makes the device standout is its ability to dependent and independent of a smartphone. The device has built in GPS, has a sim card slot which makes it support 3G connections.
The Samsung Gear S would roll out globally in october and the Nike+ Running App would come pre-installed with the device.
