Last year at the IFA, Samsung announced both the Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic circular smartwatches. Ahead of this year’s IFA 2016, the company has announced the successor to these Tizen watches – the Samsung Gear S3 Classic and Gear S3 Frontier. Both will be available starting Q4 2016.
Building on the design of its predecessor, the Samsung Gear S3 combines premium, timeless design including IP68 water & dust resistance standards and built-in standalone GPS. The Gear S3 Classic is the more trendier of the two, with leather bands to go along while the Gear S3 frontier is all rugged and would blend into any environment with silicone bands.
The Gear S3 sports the same 1.3-inch Super AMOLED circular touchcreen display with Corning Gorilla Glass SR+ for protection and the signature rotating bezel for navigation and other functions. The Always On Display (AOD) has been improved to show the time rather than just fade to black.

It also supports 22mm standard watchband, measures 49 x 46 x 12.9mm in dimension and weighs 57 grams without the bands for the classic while the Frontier weighs 62 grams. Both have a 1GHz Dual-Core processor, 768MB of RAM, 4GB built-in storage space, buillt-in speakers, NFC & MST for making contactless payment and run the newer Tizen OS 2.3.2.
With a bigger 380mAh battery with wireless charging, the Samsung Gear S3 also features low-power and power-off modes to guarantee longer battery life. There are a host of health, leisure and outdoor functions including heart rate monitoring, notifications and fitness tracking.
