At the company’s Investor Forum 2015 where several new technology and several internal matters were discussed, Samsung announced BRITECELL – the new camera technology to be used on its devices but didn’t confirm it would or not be used on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S7.
About a week ago, the South Korean company applied for the trademark of the ‘BRITECELL’ moniker. The goal of the new technology (Bright Cell Technology) is to achieve smaller camera module with higher resolution but maintaining low light sensitivity and achieving a smart wide dynamic range.
The camera technology replaces the green pixel in the traditional RGB in arrangement with White; the new RWB arrangement allows more light to reach the sensor, resulting in brighter images and thus enhanced light sensitivity in low light conditions. The sensor also has Phase Detection AutoFocus (PDAF) for faster and more accurate focusing.
The BRITECELL sensor contains ‘Smart WDR’ with the WDR meaning Wide Dynamic Range will improve detailed image by using multi-exposure for better spatial resolution. Cameras using the new technology can feature up to 20 million pixels measuring 1µm.
Hopefully, the BRITECELL camera sensors would find their way to devices by next year, well, the Galaxy S7 is expected by Q1 2016. And that is no coincidence right?
