Samsung Exynos 5 Octa 5430 20nm SoC announced

Samsung has announced the Exynos 5 Octa 5430 SoC -. the first chip from the South Korean company to use the 20nm HKMG process technology. The new chipset is also the first chipset for any smartphone manufacturer to be based on this said process. 

The Exynos 5 Octa 5430 is based on ARM big.LITTLE technology and features Heterogeneous Multi-Processing, which makes it able to run on Eight cores at a time to produce peak performance.

It packs four Cortex A15 cores clocked up to 1.5GHz and four Cortex A7 cores running up to 1.3GHz. One major feature changed is its ability to reduce power consumption by 25% which is due to the 20nm HKMG process technology. The chipset offers support for 2K display (2560×1440 WQHD and 2560×1600 WQXGA. 

There is also Multimedia processing, HDMI interface, H.265/HEVC decoder and 17 GB/s of memory bandwidth. The chipset also uses the ARM Mali T628 MP6 GPU which is similar with the Exynos 5420 and 5422 but with an increased frequency up to 600MHz.

Samsung has also announced a new Exynos Modem 303 with advanced LTE Cat.6, multiband and multimode capabilities.

Currently only the NVIDIA Tegra K1 surpasses the Exynos 5430 Octa chipset from Samsung on Benchmark results. The chipset debuts on the Samsung Galaxy Alpha and it is also expected on the Galaxy Note 4 which is scheduled for a September release.
