With more rumours about the upcoming iPhone 6 from Apple gathering steam, Samsung has launched what it calls “the evolution of galaxy designs” – the Samsung Galaxy Alpha. In what is a break from the norm, Samsung launches the Galaxy Alpha with a metal frame (similar to the iphone? You decide). With the Galaxy Note 4 set to debut ahead of the IFA 2014 in Berlin, the metal-framed Alpha has been released possibly not to share the spotlight with the unnannounced phablet.
The Samsung Galaxy Alpha has a steel frame and a faux leather back similar to the Galaxy S5. The device sports a 4.7-inch 720p Super AMOLED HD display. The device is powered by a Exynos 5 Octa built up of four Cortex-A15 cores (1.8GHz) and four Cortex-A7 cores (1.3GHz) but there is a rumour of a Quad-core version (possibly the Snapdragon 805 SoC). There is 2GB of RAM and 32GB of non-expandable internal storage (no micro SD card slot).
On the rear is a 12MP camera with different camera features and a 2.1MP front camera for selfies and video chats. Connectivity options includes – GPS, Dual band Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, LTE Cat.6 Connectivity, GPS, USB 2.0.
The Samsung Galaxy Alpha measures 132.4 x 65.5 x 6.7 mm, weighs 115g, runs on Android 4.4.4 Kitkat OS with Samsung’s TouchWiz on top and powered by a 1860mAh battery. And like the Galaxy S5; the Galaxy Alpha also pack a Fingerprint scanner, S health, Heart Rate sensor, Ultra Power Saving Mode and seamlessly compatible with the Samsung Gear smartwatches.
