Samsung has officially announced the Samsung Galaxy J2 – the apparent successor to the Galaxy J1 at a launch event in Kolkata, India. The affordable entry-level 4G LTE smartphone is designed by the company’s R&D facility in India and is priced at Rs 8490 ($128).
The Galaxy J2 has a metal frame around the sides, has a faux leather back and comes in Black, Gold and White colour options. The device will start selling on September 21st on both online and offline retail channels.
Commenting on the launch, Asim Warsi, Vice President, Marketing, IT & Mobile at Samsung India, said:

Ultra Data Saving Mode, which is the key feature in the device, has been developed at our Indian R&D facilities to deliver the most cost efficient 4G device.”
Moving to the specs, the Samsung Galaxy J2 sports a 4.7-inch (960 x 540 pixels) qHD Super AMOLED display, runs Android 5.1 Lollipop OS, powered by a quad-core Exynos 3475 processor clocked at 1.3GHz with 1GB of RAM and 8GB space of internal storage.
On the back, there is a main 5MP f/2.2 AutoFocus camera with LED Flash, 720p HD Video recording; a front facing 2MP f/2.4 camera and for additional storage, there is a microSD card slot for expansion up to 128GB.
Connectivity options includes – Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and 4G LTE/3G HSPA+. Measuring 136.5 x 69 x 8.4mm in dimensions, the Samsung Galaxy J2 has Dual Micro SIM slots and is backed by a 2000mAh battery.
One of the highlight of the Samsung Galaxy J2 is the Ultra Data Saving Mode or UDS mode which is powered by Opera Max. It saves data by enabling optimisation, let’s users block and unblock apps which uses mobile data and free-up up to 11% RAM in operation.
At the moment, Samsung has launched 17 4G enabled handset so far and all upcoming affordable budget smartphones from the company will have Ultra Data Saving Mode.
