Smartphones with Digital TV tuners are not uncommon in countries like Brazil, Mexico and the Philippines, where broadcast TV services are still widely enjoyed. Taping into this existing trend, the Samsung Galaxy J2 DTV has just launched in the Filipino market.
Priced at 6,990 Philippines Pesos ($150), the Samsung Galaxy J2 DTV keeps basically all the specs and design of the Galaxy J2/Galaxy J2 2016 and supports the Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting (ISDB) standard, which allows the user watch broadcast television from anywhere (in the regions supported).
The device sports a 4.7-Inch (960 x 540 pixels) qHD Super AMOLED Display (234ppi), powered by the quad-core Samsung Exynos 3475 processor along with Mali-T720 GPU, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB internal storage space and even runs the dated Android 5.1 Lollipop OS.
Photography is handled by a 5 MP main camera with f/2.2 aperture and a front facing 2 MP f/2.2 camera for selfies and video calling. The Samsung Galaxy J2 DTV is powered by a 2000mAh Li-ion battery which could feel inadequate given the tasks the entry-level is expected to be subjected to.
