As Samsung did last year with the Galaxy Note 3, the company is set to announce its upcoming Phablet – the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 on September 3 ahead of the IFA conference and we should expect official invites to be sent out soon. With the Samsung Galaxy S5 being the company’s main flagship, the Galaxy Note 4 is also expected to come with top notch specs and the company is reported to be looking to launch the device before the iPhone 6 launches this month.
At this year’s Q2 earnings call, an executive confirmed that the company is working on two flagship smartphone for the second half of the year citing a device made from new materials (possibly aluminium metal) – the Galaxy Alpha and a large screen device which depicts the Galaxy Note 4.
What samsung looks to achieve with this device is yet to be know? With some sources claiming the Galaxy Note 4 would feature a metal chasis, some claiming the device would be plastic, some sources say the device would feature a curved OLED screen and others says the device will feature flat OLED screen?
Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Display and Design
The Note 4 is set to feature a 5.9-inch but benchmark listing favours a 5.7-inch display with a metal chassis. The original Galaxy Note featured a 5.3-inch display, the Galaxy Note 2 had a 5.5-inch display and the Galaxy Note 3 sported a 5.7-inch display.
With a 5.7″ display, it is tipped to have a 2560 x 1440 QHD pixel resolution on a flat OLED screen and metal case. Samsung is also expected to showcase a curved OLED version at the IFA but is not meant for the mass market. The Galaxy Note 4 is expected to be Dustproof and Water proof.
Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Processor
There are strong reports that the Korean market and some select market will get a Galaxy Note 4 sporting a octa-core Exynos 5433 chip, while the Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor could be present in US and UK markets.
The octa-core Exynos 5433 chip did outperform the Snapdragon 805 recently on benchmark listing but both chipset still sit behind NVIDIA’s Tegra K1 processor in performance. The Exynos 5433 goes along with Mali-T760 GPU which could power a 2560 x 1440 QHD display while the Snapdragon 805 SoC coupled with its Adreno 420 GPU can only power up a 1920 x 1080 resolution display.
According to AnTuTu listing, The Exynos 5433 chipset was not tested in a 64-Bit environment so it is possible the device is more powerful and faster than the result claims. Along with the processor we could get 3GB RAM at least or possibly a 4GB RAM to go along with the device.
Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Camera
Samsung is reported to be working on a 20MP slated for a Q3 release which could accidentally/deliberately coincides with the launch of the phablet. According to Antutu Benchmark listing, there is a 16MP rear camera and a front camera of 5MP for video chats and selfies.
Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Features
Weeks ago, Samsung tweeted about working on eye scanning technology in the near future. The Galaxy Note four is touted to feature a Retina Scanner along with the Fingerprint scanner. Also expected is modifications to the S Pen. The Note 4 is expected to be the first smartphone to integrate the UV sensor. The UV sensor works with the S Health application to read UV radiations and offer index levels.
Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Software
Expect the device to run on Android 4.4.4 Kitkat OS with Samsung’s signature TouchWiz interface on top. As well as expect other Software additives on the device.
Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Pricing and Availability
The Note 4 is definitely a premium smartphone so we expect a very pricey tag. According to Korea times, Samsung has struck agreement with major US carries – Verizon, Sprint Nextel, AT&T and T-Mobile as to shipping the device. There is also a very big promotional campaign slated for China. (Possibly to win back more market share from the Chinese handset manufacturers).
With a dip in the company’s profit and a rise in Budget Chinese handset manufacturers Samsung would be looking to get back on track with the release of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. That’s all we have on the Note 4 rumours, till then we look ahead to rumoured yet official launch date.
