Official: Samsung Galaxy Note 7 with 4GB RAM, USB Type-C and S Pen

In what can be called one of the worst kept secret ever; the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has gone official, denying the Galaxy Note 6 any chance of existence. The stylus totting phablet was unveiled in New York at the Galaxy Unpacked 2016 event and will be available starting August 19 on all major carriers in the US.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has Dual Curved EDGE display just like the Galaxy S7 Edge, aluminium metal body frame, and glass panels on the rear and front. The phablet has the usual Oval Fingerprint/Home Button and is both Waterproof and Dustproof (IP68 Rating).

The flagship is the first Samsung phone to use the USB Type-C port and integrates an Iris Scanner which could replace the fingerprint sensor as the option to secure Samsung Pay, KNOX and personal files.

Depending on the region, the device relies on either the Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC or Samsung’s Octa-core Exynos 8890 processor along with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage space. For additional storage, there is a microSD card slot but UFS cards are not supported.

The S Pen on the Note 7 promises a ballpoint pen-like experience and can work even under water. It recognises up to 4096 different level pressures, leaves notes on the Always-on screen, serve as a translation tool and now create GIF videos.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is backed by a 3500mAh battery (supports OTG, quick and wireless charging), has the same cameras as the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge; and also comes with suite of accessories including the S View Standing Cover and the BackPack with 3100mAh battery wireless charging battery case.

In terms of pricing, the Galaxy Note 7 originally costs $849.99 but could go up to $880 depending on the choice of carrier or retail store. Freebies such as a 256GB MicroSD card or Gear Fit 2 is on offer for those who pre-order. The company also launched a refreshed Gear VR for the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, which costs $99.99.
