Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ vs Motorola Moto X Style: Specs Comparison

We have to agree that both the recently released Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Motorola Moto X Style are interesting devices. It is a common sight to see a flagship device from Samsung but it’s been over a year since Motorola announced any, with the acquisition by Lenovo being the notable news.

Judging from this point last year, it would have been difficult to compare a Motorola Moto X 2014 (5.2-inch display) smartphone with the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge (5.6-inch display) ; as there was a huge gulf in class.

Both the Galaxy S6 Edge+ and the Moto X Style (in the US as the Moto X Pure Edition) have a 5.7-inch display and asides the curvy nature of the display of the former, they both are up for it. Let’s get down to their specs comparison and we will let you be the judge.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ vs Motorola Moto X Style: Specs Comparison

Display: Both the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Motorola Moto X Style has a 5.7-inch (2560 x 1440 pixels) Quad HD display and Corning Gorilla Glass protection.

However, the S6 Edge+ has a Super AMOLED type and a pixel density of 518ppi while the Moto X Style has a TFT LCD one with a pixel density of 520ppi. Both devices are evenly matched here unless u can spot the extra 2 pixels.

Design: Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder they say, the Galaxy S6 Edge+ is a beauty to behold with its Dual Edge display coupled with metal and glass body. it is the phablet version of the Galaxy S6 Edge, rather than the successor to the Galaxy Note Edge launched last year.

The Moto X Style also impresses as it can be customised on the Moto Maker into different colours and different back cover but the device is no Galaxy S6 Edge+ so the honor goes to Samsung’s Dual Edge phablet.

Processing Power: The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ makes with 4GB RAM and an octa-core Exynos 7420 processor while the Moto X Style has a hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor paired with 3GB RAM.

Both devices are evenly matched here as they both go about their activities seamlessly and have a battery capacity of 3000mAh with fast charging features to go along with it.

Storage: Samsung has gone the Apple way by excluding a microSD card slot on its flagships; the phablet is available in 32GB and 64GB internal storage space. There is no microSD card slot available and even Sammy fanboys are not happy with the decision.

The Moto X Style comes out on top here, not only is it available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB internal storage option, there is also a microSD card slot available which can extend storage up to 128GB.

Camera: Samsung used the same 16MP camera with Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) and LED flash and 5MP front camera found on the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge on the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+. The Motorola Moto X Style has a 21MP camera with LED flash and a 5MP front camera with flash.

We all know that the number of pixels doesn’t translate to a better camera but this comparison is based on specs information and not real life performance so it would be partial with the Moto X Style as it has more pixels and a front camera flash.

Operating System (OS): Both smartphones run Android 5.1 Lollipop OS which is upgradable to Android 6.0 Marshmallow when it is available to all. The take is the S6 Edge+ runs a heavily customised version of Lollipop (TouchWiz) while the Moto X Style runs a stock looking version.

In terms of update, the Moto X Style has the tendency to operate and get faster updates, while the Galaxy S6 Edge+ is not far off with TouchWiz and updates will come too.

Verdict

It has been fun pitching up the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ vs Motorola Moto X Style and as a matter fact we will state the points and let you decide which goes well for you.

Looking at the above, the Moto X Style is moderately beautiful, has a higher pixel camera, a microSD card slot and runs stock Android; the Galaxy S6 Edge+ on the other hand has a beautiful futuristic look but lacks a microSD card slot and the number of pixel of the camera is lower.
