As expected, Samsung has officially unveiled the new Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ flagships at the MWC 2018. The duo sports the same polished aluminium body frame with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection (front and rear) and will go on sale in select markets starting March 16, 2018 in Coral Blue, Lilac Purple, Midnight Black and Titanium Gray colours.
The Galaxy S9 and S9+ are powered by a 64-bit octa-core 10nm processor (either the Exynos 9810 or the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 mobile platform) paired with either 4GB RAM (S9) or 6GB of RAM (S9+) along with 64GB, 128GB and 256GB built-in storage, which is expandable up to 400GB via microSD.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 has a 5.8-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED Infinity display, single rear Dual Pixel 12MP AF camera with OIS (f/1.5 to f/2.4) and a 3,000mAh battery, while the Samsung Galaxy S9+ has a bigger 6.2-inch display with the same resolution, Dual 12MP cameras with Dual OIS and a 3,500mAh battery.
The cameras boast features such as Super Slow-mo, Low Light Camera, AR Emoji and Bixby. Both models come equipped with front facing 8MP camera with f/1.7 aperture, powerful AKG-tuned stereo speakers tuned by AKG, surround sound with Dolby Atmos technology and the new SmartThings app, which turn the phones into a central hub for managing every facet of the connected lifestyle at home or on the go.
Users can choose from any/all three biometric authentication options – facial recognition, fingerprint and iris. The Dedicated Fingerprint feature gives users the option to use a fingerprint to access Secure Folder than the one used to unlock the phone.
Like the Galaxy S8 and S8+, the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are IP87-certified (water and dust resistance) and supports both fast wired (USB Type-C 3.1) and wireless charging. They also come pre-loaded with Android 8.0 Oreo with Samsung’s Grace UX on top and Samsung Knox 3.1.
