Samsung Introduces Galaxy Tab Iris Equipped with Iris Recognition Technology for Government and Enterprises in India

Under the Digital India Vision and Made in India’ initiative, Samsung India has announced a new tablet – the Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris with Iris Recognition and Aadhar authentication ready through an integrated and highly secure biometric device. It costs RS 13,499 (USD 200), supports 14 local Indian languages and is aimed at security sensitive businesses and public offices.

Asides the inclusion of Iris Recognition and being Aadhar-compliant & STQC-certified, the tablet doesn’t offer too much in terms of the specifications. It sports a 7-inch display with 1024 × 600 pixels screen resolution (WSVGA) and is backed by a fairly moderate 3600mAh battery. On the inside, there is a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz paired along with 1.5GB RAM, 8GB built-in storage and the OS is Android 5.0 Lollipop.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris measures 193.4 x 116.4 x 9.7mm in dimensions, weighs in at 327 grams and comes in Black colour option only. For additional storage space there is a microSD card slot for storage expansion up to 200GB and the rear camera is a 5MP AutoFocus Snapper. Connectivity options onboard includes – 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 and USB OTG.
