Samsung’s August 2021 Unpack event saw the launch of four new products – two foldable/flip smartphones, new earbuds and two new smartwatches – the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. The duo come pre-loaded with Samsung’s One UI Watch and the new WearOS co-developed by Samsung and Google for smartwatches.
Samsung promises that the WearOS platform offers the best of the Galaxy ecosystem (Auto Switch, Bixby voice, Samsung Pay and SmartThings); Google apps (Google Maps, Messages, Google Pay and YouTube Music) and compatibility with third-party apps such as adidas Running, Calm and Spotify on Google Play. Each model is powered by the Exynos W920 dual core (5nm) processor paired with 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB storage.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Series feature the company’s 3-in-1 BioActive Sensor which combines the typical Optical Heart Rate, Electrical Heart (ECG) and Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis. Other health related features include guided workouts, snoring detection, advance sleep scores, overnight blood oxygen level checking, group challenges and all new Body Composition measurement tool for measuring the proportion of body fat, bone, and muscle.
The key differences between the two models in the Watch 4 series comes in the design. The minimalist-looking Watch 4 comes in aluminium casing and either either 40mm (Black, Pink Gold and Silver) and 44mm (Black, Green and Silver) sizes. On the other hand, the premium Watch 4 Classic rocks a traditional stainless-steel casing and the well-known rotating bezels. It is available in either 42mm or 46mm watch sizes and either Black or Silver colours.
Pricing starts at US$ $249.99 (Bluetooth) and US$ 299.99 for the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 while the Classic model starts at US$ 349.99 (Bluetooth) and US$ 399.99 (LTE). They are already open for pre-orders and will go on sale starting August 27. Samsung will offer a special rhodium-plated Galaxy Watch4 Classic Thom Browne limited edition sometime in September.
