The highlight of Samsung’s recent UnPacked 2022 event were the company’s latest foldable smartphones – the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4. Both 5G-enabled devices are fitted with IPX8-water resistance and come pre-loaded with Android 12 with One UI 4.1.1. Other devices unveiled include the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4
The Galaxy Z Fold 3 successor arrives with slimmer hinge, wider screen and lighter weight. It comes pre-loaded with Android 12L – a customised version of Android 12 for larger screens, up to 1TB built-in storage, 12GB of RAM, 5G connectivity support, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 Mobile Platform and a 7.6-inch QXGA+ Infinity Flex Display which folds out into a 6.2-inch HD+ display. Both screens have adaptive 120Hz refresh rate and supports the S Pen functionality.
The phone is IPX8-certified; both the screen and rear glass is protected by Corning Glass Victus. It has a triple rear camera setup – 12MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide, 50MP (f/1.8) wide-angle and 10MP (f/2.4) telephoto camera as well as a 4MP (f/1.8) under display camera and 10MP selfie camera on the cover screen. Samsung partnered with Microsoft and Google to provide Google apps such as Google Meet and Gmail, and Microsoft’s full Office suite and Outlook.
The $1,799 Galaxy Z Fold 4 is available on retail starting August 26 in Beige, Greygreen, and Phantom Black colours as well as a special Burgundy colour option exclusive to Samsung.com.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4
Alongside the Fold 4, Samsung also unveiled the Galaxy Z Flip 4 with a handful of upgrades over its predecessor the Z Flip 3. It has the same 6.7-inch FHD+ Infinity Flex display with 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. When flipped closed, the cover screen has a 1.9-inch Super AMOLED display. It is fitted with a 10MP (f/2.4) selfie camera and dual rear cameras – 12MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide + 12MP (f/1.8) wide-angle.
The rest of the specs include 8GB of RAM, up to 512GB built-in storage, Fingerprint sensor (side) and 3,700mAh battery with Super-Fast Charging. The $999 Z Flip 4 is available on retail starting August 26 in Blue, Bora Purple, Graphite, Pink Gold and other Bespoke options available on Samsug.com.
