Samsung likes to be the first in everything, who doesn’t anyway?. After being the first to announce the first smartwatch, the company is moving closer to making a perfect smartwatch, or at least something close. Samsung is working on a smartwatch with round display and is codenamed Orbis.
According to Sammobile, the Orbis smartwatch would be launched as the Samsung Gear A and the device would be available in two variants. While both variants would have Wi-Fi connectivity, one variant would have Bluetooth connectivity and the other with Voice calling and 3G.
The listing also shows the codenames of the two main models of the Gear A: SM-R720 and SM-R730. The SM-R720 would be the model with Bluetooth alone and the SM-R730 is the model with 3G connectivity. The latter would be available on major carriers – AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile for the US and SKT, LG U+ and KT for South Korea.
The Samsung Gear A is rumoured to run on Tizen OS instead of Android Wear and is expected to be a major improvement to all the already available Samsung smartwatches. Baring in mind the Apple Watch would soon be in the markets soon, Samsung would be looking to release the Gear A in time to compete with the Cupertino based firm’s wares.
However, let’s not forget that Samsung currently leads the global smartwatch market with the likes of Pebble, fitbit, Sony, lenovo and LG following suit respectively.
