Samsung may be looking to release the Gear VR virtual reality headset ahead of the holidays with December 1 tipped to be the likely date. The South Korean Giants announced the Gear VR alongside the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge Phablets.
The VR headset which had been long rumoured surprisingly debuted at the UNPACKED 2014 event but the device was only announced without any further pricing nor availability details made available on the announcement date.
The VR headset was developed in collaboration with Occulus VR to give consumers an Occulus Rift feel. The Gear VR however is said to be only compatible with the Samsung Galaxy Note 4; and the device would be fitted into the Headset thereby making use of the smartphone’s’ AMOLED display to bring virtual reality closer to the user.
According to a leaked internal document attributed the customer service department of the company, the document is a training sheet obviously for the customer service department employees and contains Q&As which includes – “when is Gear VR coming out?” and “how much will Gear VR cost?”
On the document, the Samsung Gear VR would be released on December 1 and would be available in South Korea for a KRW 200,000 (that’s approximately $187; €148 or about N31,000 in Naira). This new piece of update partially backs the $199 price tag the Gear VR headset was expected to carry once it debuts in the US market.
As always, this isn’t an official announcement from the company and the authenticity of the document in question is uncertain; thus the recent details should be taken very lightly. However if they come out to be true, already expectant Samsung fans can cop the very first set of Gear VR (of course alongside the Galaxy Note 4) before the end of the year in different regional markets.
