SDC18: Samsung Unveil Infinity Flex Display And One UI

At the Samsung Developer Conference (SDC18) in San Francisco, Samsung unveiled Infinity Flex Display and One UI – its new vision for the next generation of mobile displays with powerful experiences. New developer tools for Bixby and SmartThings platforms were also announced.

Samsung gave the world a glimpse of its upcoming foldable smartphone with Infinity Flex Display. The device, which is rumoured to enter mass production in months, feature an elastic OLED panel which is naturally a tablet but folds into half to form a smartphone with a smaller external display.

According to sources, the device has a large 7.3-inch (1536 x 2152 pixels) display with 4:2:3 aspect ratio and folds into a single, smaller 4.6-inch (840 x 1960 pixels) display with 21:9 aspect ratio unlike Rouyu’s FlexPai which folds into a dual screen smartphone. The model showcased was housed in a case but the final design is set to be unveiled at the next ‘Galaxy Unpacked’ event (most likely CES 2019).

Samsung also introduced One UI – it’s new and intuitive user interface with clean and minimal design. It is well optimised for one-handed usage and relevant contents can be found on the bottom half of the screen. It will be used on foldable and non-foldable smartphones.
