Samsung Pay to Launch in H2 2015 with smartwatch compatibility

Samsung is set to launch the Samsung Pay which it announced alongside its Galaxy S6 flagship. The mobile payment solution is expected to launch in the Korea and US by the second half of the year, with other countries expected to get the feature at a later date.

According to a Korean publication, quoting Samsung Electronics Managing Director, Park Jin-Young; The Samsung Pay is being discussed and it is likely to make its debut by the second half (H2) of the year. The mobile payment app is also said to come with smartwatch compatibility. 

“The consecutive release schedule to the rest of the other countries following Korea and the US in the second half of the year is still under discussion. The compatibility option with the smart watch will only be disclosed during the launch,”

he added.

Last month, the company confirmed it was working on a smartwatch with round display; the watch codenamed Orbis (final name – Samsung Gear A). The SDK has been made available to developers to make apps for the smartwatch.

Samsung announced the mobile payment app, Samsung Pay alongside the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge which is obviously in response to the Apple Pay feature which debuted in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. 

The payment system is much more flexible than the Apple Pay, while both payment solution makes uses of NFC; thanks to the LoopPay’s Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST), Samsung has an edge because it can virtually be accepted by any retailer in the world.
