Earlier last month we reported the Samsung SM-G9198 as the possible Samsung Galaxy S6 Mini, however, as it turns out it is now confirmed to be a flip-phone which is expected to succeed the Samsung SM-G9098, a similar Android-based flip-phone that was announced in China last year.
While Flip-Phones (or Clamshell smartphones) are no longer in trend some countries like Japan, South Korea and China still have consumers interested in them. The device paid a visit to the Chinese Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center (TENAA) and we have managed to obtain most of the key specs.
The Samsung SM-G9198 is the first device form the company to be powered by a 1.8GHz Hexa-core Qualcomm 808 processor which is also the same used on the flagship LG G4. It runs the latest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS, measures 119.7 x 66.6 x 16.7 mm in dimensions when closed and weighs 191 grams which means you’ll need some muscles to handle it.
It has two 3.91-inch (768 x 1280 pixels) AMOLED display, 2GB of RAM, 16GB space of internal storage and a microSD card slot for storage expansion (up to 128GB). On the rear there is a 16MP camera with LED flash and a front 5MP camera.
It’s likely predecessor launched in China last year around May with the model name on China Mobile, so it is very possible this smartphone would launch as the Samsung G9198. Who is interested in getting this flip-phone with some of the latest specs yet?.
