Most believe clamshell devices are a thing of the old but trust me, they are verily much around especially in select markets like Japan and China. Talking about the Chinese market, Samsung has recently added a new clamshell (or flip phone) called the Samsung W2017.
The Samsung W2017 succeeds the W2016 with the same form factor and comes with top of the shelf specs. The W2017 sports metal frame with glass back, two 4.2-inch Super AMOLED displays (one inside the other outside) with 1080p FHD screen resolution and backed by a 2300mAh fast charging battery.
Under the hood, it relies on the high-end quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor along with 4GB of RAM and 64GB built-in expandable storage space. The main camera is a 12MP sensor with f/1.9 aperture, LED flash and 4K video capture while the front selfie camera is a 5MP snapper.
Tipping the scales at 208 grams and measuring 127.8 x 61.4 x 15.8 mm in dimensions; the W2017 has a Hybrid Dual SIM slot, fingerprint sensor, heart rate sensor and Always-On display as well as support for mobile payments (Samsung Pay), Wireless charging and 4G VoLTE.
The flip phone boots Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS, supports Wi-Fi 802.11ac (2X2 MIMO), Bluetooth 4.1 LE, NFC and GPS + GLONASS. There is no word on pricing at the moment but the Samsung W2017 is available in Black and Gold colour options.
