In a year packed with full-screen smartphones with a notch (different sizes), – SHARP has ‘one up on’ rival manufacturers with the launch of the world’s first smartphone with dual hardware notch, the Sharp AQUOS R2 Compact – successor to last year’s Japan-exclusive AQUOS R Compact.
The Sharp AQUOS R2 Compact sports a 5.2-inch (2280 x 1080 pixels) Full HD+ IGZO 19:9 display with 120GHz refresh rate like the Razer Phone 2. The top notch houses the front facing 8MP camera with face unlock while the bottom notch houses the oval fingerprint sensor.
Internally, the device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 mobile platform paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB built-in storage (expandable up to 512GB via microSD). It is equipped with a 22.6MP rear camera with a 22mm f/1.9 lens, OIS and EIS, and boots Android 9 Pie OS.
It has a 3.5mm headphone jack with Dolby Atmos support, USB Type-C port for charging and IP68-rating (waterproof). Power is supplied by a 2,500mAh battery. The AQUOS R2 Compact will go on sale by mid-January in Japan exclusively via Softbank. Pricing is still unknown.
