SHARP has announced the launch of a new smartphone in its Aquos series for the Japanese market. The Sharp Aquos S3 is also the latest entrant to Google’s Android One Program that not only guarantees the latest Android version (Oreo) yet but also the promise of regular and timely updates (software and security) directly from Google.
The Sharp Aquos S3 features a 5-inch IGZO display with 1920 x 1080 pixels (Full HD) resolution and S-Pure LED backlight. The body, which measures 144 x 71 x 8.5 mm and weighs 143 grams, is certified for IPX5/IPX8 (water resistant and water proof), IP6X (dust tight) and MIL-STD-810G (shock resistance).
The device is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 (MSM8937) processor paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB built-in storage which is expandable up to 256GB via microSD. Photography is handled by a rear facing 13.1MP camera with a single LED flash and front facing 5MP camera.
Arriving in Black, Gold, Green and Rose Gold colour variants, the Sharp Aquos S3 is backed by a 2,700mAh battery and charges via a USB Type-C port. It is expected to go on sale for a price tag of JPY 324,000 (US$ 298).
