Lesser known German smartphone maker, Shift has announced Shift5 + a not-so modular smartphone with the option of running either Android 5.1 Lollipop OS or Windows 10 Mobile OS but not both at the same time and the OS cannot be changes after that.
Moving to the specs which is not confirmed just yet, the device sports a 5-inch IPS display, powered by an Octa-core or Quad-core Qualcomm processor with up to 2GB of RAM, 32GB native storage space, a rear facing 13-megapixels camera, a front facing 5-Megapixels camera for selfies and a battery up to 3000mAh in capacity. It is available in about four (4) colour options.
The Shift5 + doesn’t exactly look as modular as Google’s project Ara or other modular device to have come forth after that. Shift however assures that not only the battery can be swapped; in any case of damage, other parts of the device like the display, internal storage and other important components will also be easily swapped out for better ones.
Nothing is finalised on the specs of the Shift5 + at the moment but all should be confirmed when the device opens up for pre-order in December 2015. The pre-order pricing is set at €399 but this could go as high as $444 when it actually starts retailing and shipping is expected to start by Q3 2016.
