Shock Resistant Samsung Galaxy S5 Active – Specifications, Features, Release Date and Price

After so many leaks surfaced online, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active (Samsung SM-G870x) has been made available exclusively available with AT&T and sprint in June while the T-Mobile model would launch in July.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Active features 5.2-inch Super AMOLED 1080p full-HD display, powered by 2.5GHz Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of inbuilt storage (expandable up to 128GB with micro SD support), and runs on Android 4.4.2 Kitkat with Samsung’s UI on top.

The Galaxy S5 Active sports a 16Mp camera with 4x zoom and ultra-HD video capture and 2Mp front facing camera for video calls. Connectivity options on the device includes Bluetooth 4.0, 4G LTE, NFC, 3G and Wi-Fi.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 Active is powered by a 2800mAh battery which provides up to 20 days of standby time and 29 hours of talk time.

The Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S5 Active both have almost the same hardware specs, but the Galaxy S5 Active has added features with added convenience key located on its side called the Activity Zone and the Activity Key. The Activity Zone key makes apps such as Barometer, Compass, Stopwatch, flashlight and a shortcut to S Health. The activity key can be also used to snap pictures on a long press.

Another added feature to the Galaxy S5 Active including the water and dust resistance; is its shock resistance and for more toughness the device is MIL-STD-810G certified, a measure used by the US Military to determine the durability of an equipment or device in adverse weather.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Active is exclusively available on US Carrier AT&T and is available for $199 on a two year contract or a at price of $714.99 (roughly N118,000 in Naira). The Galaxy S5 Active would come in three colour variants – Ruby Red, Camo Green and Titanium Grey.

However there is a dedicated Samsung’s Galaxy Premiere Press event slated for 12 June in New York. Its is very likely the Galaxy S5 Active would make its proper debut here, which means the device would be available to the rest of the world.
