The Social Media world went wild when news broke that Facebook-owned Instagram announced it had added Stories – one of the signature traits of Snapchat. Instagram Stories basically lets users share temporary photos and videos of the moment, with the option to add “text and drawing tools.”
Facebook (and now its subsidiaries) is well known to emulate features deemed threatening from direct competitors, especially those ones they have tried buying before. But I digress. Instagram Stories is a replica (clone) of Snapchat Stories and adds a number of improvements.
Although they work similarly, Stories on Instagram can be accessed on top the main feed rather than within or in the profile grid. It also has better filter options and is far simpler to use. Because they appear at the top, your followers get to see them without the need to build a new audience and that is if you decide to make it exclusive. Nevertheless, the content disappears after 24 hours.
One of the other advantage Stories on Instagram is that no one can see when make any screenshot, however, Snapchat still enjoys the advantage of message sending and tolerance for nudity, means it is still a better option for the lovers of sexting and the likes.
Another feature Instagram may look to add from Snapchat soon is Lenses. The feature will be available over the next few weeks globally on iOS and Android.
So back to why almost everybody was talking about this. Snapchat is the arguably the most-popular social network among teens and most of the users on social media are the youths or those young at heart.
