After pushing the release date more than twice, Sony Mobile has announced the cancellation of the Sony Xperia Z4v which was expected to launch on Verizon in the US. The device has initially been scheduled to launch on August 13th before being pushed forward to September 3rd.
Both Sony and Verizon have both issued statements but the exact reason for cancelling the device is not stated. Sony’s statement goes thus;
“Sony Mobile remains dedicated to the US market and aims to build a sound and stable business in this region. Verizon is a strategic partner as we continue having ongoing discussions together as part of our future portfolio.”
Verizon also echoed the same sentiments, the company issued;
“Verizon will no longer be launching Xperia Z4v, however we are committed to supporting Sony Mobiles product portfolio and will support existing products. Sony is a strategic partner as we continue having ongoing discussions together as part of our future portfolio.”
The Sony Xperia Z4v became obsolete once the Sony Xperia Z5 family was announced and it would ridiculous to launch the device now. The Xperia Z4v is a Sony Xperia Z4/Xperia Z3+ with a higher resolution display, bigger battery, protection against dust & rain, thicker body, and dual mode wireless charging support is included.
Neither Verizon or Sony confirmed whether any of the Xperia Z5 models will be carried by the Big Red.
