More than two decades after the first PlayStation was launched, Sony is introducing the PlayStation Classic – a miniaturised version of the original. It will be available on December 3 (the same date the first console dropped in 1994) from select retailers across the US and Canada.
The PlayStation Classic has been redesigned to be more compact (i.e 45% smaller in size) but retains the look and feel of the original. Each unit will arrive a USB cable, with two controllers for local multiplayer within compatible titles and a HDMI cable to connect to the TV.
The console will be pre-installed with 20 classic games, including favourites such as Final Fantasy VII, Jumping Flash, Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3 and Wild Arms. Sony also confirms the fact that all the pre-loaded games are playable in their original format.
The PlayStation Classic is priced a $99 in the US, €99 in Europe, £89 in the UK and CAD 129.99 in Canada. There is no word on availability in other markets.
