Sony Corporation has announced the details of the PS5 launch event. The company is expected to unveil the console and show off several first games at an online-only event titled “Future Of Gaming” – scheduled for Thursday, June 11 at 9pm BST / 1pm PDT / 4pm EDT (Friday June 12 – 6am AEST). It can be streamed on Twitch or YouTube at 1080p and 30 frames per second.
Sony did not reveal in-depth details about the nature of the event but advised the audience to listen via headphones rather than their phone or laptop speakers. Over the past months, the company has set up a live website for the PS5, which is scheduled to launch in time for the year-end holiday and has shared some technical details including the new DualSense wireless controller.
The PlayStation 5 will feature a 3rd-gen Ryzen-based CPU, GPU based on the Navi family, 8K gameplay support, 3D audio support and 4K UHD Blu-ray optical drive. It is also confirmed to be backwards compatible with PS4 games. Typically, Microsoft and Sony have been known to reveal new competing consoles in November. We believe the upcoming XBOX Series X is expected to launch around the same time as the PS5.
