Sony has refreshed its Xperia line of smartphones with two new additions: the flagship Xperia 1 II and the super-mid Xperia 10 II. Both smartphone models ship Android 10, feature triple-lens cameras and use Qualcomm Snapdragon mobile platforms (865 and 665 respectively). in terms of availability, the former is expected to go on sale in Europe from late Spring 2020 in Black and Purple colours, while the latter will arrive from late Spring 2020 in Black and White colours. Sony is still working on the Sony Xperia Pro, hence, no release date yet.
Sony Xperia 1 II/Sony Xperia Pro
The Xperia 1 II is Sony’s first 5G smartphone and currently holds the record for the world’s first to offer up to 20fps AF/AE tracking burst. It sports a 6.5-inch 4K HDR OLED display with 21:9 CinemaWide aspect ratio, Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection on both sides, front stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos system, Hi-Res Audio support, IP65/68 water resistance rating and 4,000mAh battery with wired and wireless (Qi compatible) fast charging.
For photography, Sony teamed up with ZEISS optics to provide a triple lens system with a leading AF camera tech that offers Real-time Eye AF for humans and animals, and up to 20 frames per second (fps) continuous burst shooting and up to 60 times per second continuous AF/AE calculation. The camera system consists of 12MP (f/2.2), 12MP (f/2.4) and 12MP (f/1.7) sensors with 16mm, 24mm and 70mm focal lengths respectively, as well as 3D iToF.
In low light conditions, the camera combines four different technologies including 3D iToF sensor, new large 1/1.7” Exmor RS, an AF system that covers up to 70-percent of the sensor and Dual photo diode sensor. On the inside, the device is based on the high-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 mobile platform, Snapdragon Elite Gaming and the Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF system onboard offer 5G connectivity (sub-6 GHz network) in select markets.
It packs 8GB of RAM, 256GB built-in storage and 8MP (f/2.0, 84° FOV) selfie camera. The company also quietly unveiled the Sony Xperia Pro, which is the rugged version of the Sony Xperia 1 II. It supports both sub-6GHz and 5G mmWave technology, and the rear glass has been replaced with a low dielectric constant material which allows the easy flow of 5G mmWave radio signals. The rest of the difference includes IP65/68 water resistance rating, HDMI port and 360° antenna design.

Sony Xperia 10 II
The Xperia 10 II has a smaller 6.0-inch FHD+ OLED display with 21:9 aspect ratio and Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection, 4GB of RAM, 128GB built-in storage, 3.5mm audio jack, IP65/IP68 water and dust resistance rating and a 3,600mAh battery with Sony’s AI Battery Care and Xperia Adaptive Charging. It is based on the mid-tier Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 mobile platform with Adreno 610 GPU.
Photography is also handled by a triple lens system with a 12MP (f/2.0, 77° FOV, PDAF) main shooter with 26mm focal length and 1/2.8″ Exmor RS sensor, paired with an 8MP (f/2.4, 45° FOV) telephoto shooter with 52mm focal length and 8MP (f/2.2, 120° FOV) ultra-wide shooter with 16mm focal length. On the front, there is a 8MP (f/2.0, 84° FOV) selfie camera.
