Sony Mobile has refreshed its Xperia line of smartphones with three new additions – the Sony Xperia 1 III, Xperia 5 III and Xperia 10 III. The 2021 models are the third instalment from the series – considering 2019’s models (Xperia 1 I, Xperia 5 I & Xperia 10 I, and 2020’s (Xperia 1 II, Xperia 5 II and Xperia 10 II). The latest models come pre-loaded with near-stock Android 11 and start shipping in Summer 2021.
Sony Xperia 1 III
The top of the line, Xperia 1 III brings several improvements over its predecessor, the Xperia 1 II. The triple camera system now has a variable Telephoto lens with Dual PDAF sensors that achieves up to a 105mm focal length. Sony retails the ZEISS optics as well as features such as a new AI super resolution zoom, Photography Pro and Basic Mode. Other highlighted features include 360 Spatial Sound, 3.5mm audio jack, and Hi-Res Audio.
The device is fitted with a 6.5-inch 21:9 CinemaWideTM 4K HDR OLED display with 120Hz Refresh rate, Corning Gorilla Victus Glass (front) and Corning Gorilla Glass 6 (rear). It is based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G mobile platform for 5G connectivity and depend a 4,500mAh battery with Xperia Adaptive charging, wireless charging, and battery share function to charge other devices. It is available in Frosted Black and Purple colours.
Sony Xperia 5 III
The Xperia 5 III is also armed with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G mobile platform, 8GB of RAM, 128GB/256GB UFS built-in storage, and a 4,500mAh battery with 30W charger and Xperia Adaptive charging. The only notable change between this generation and the last comes in the camera department. The 12MP triple rear camera system remains; however, it now comes with a variable Telephoto unit with Dual PDAF sensors which switches the focal length from 70mm to 105mm.
The device does not stray too far from its predecessor with a 6.1-inch 21:9 CinemaWide HDR OLED display with Corning Gorilla 6 protection (front and rear), 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz Touch sampling rate and 240Hz Motion blur reduction. Other features include microSD card slot, 3.5mm audio jack, Wi-Fi 6, side-fingerprint sensor, Bluetooth 5.2, and stereo speakers with 360 Reality Audio format. It will arrive in Black, Green and Pink colours.
Sony Xperia 10 III
The Xperia 10 III improves on the performance of its predecessor with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 5G mobile platform paired with 6GB RAM and 128GB UFS built-in expandable storage. It is backed by a 4,500mAh battery with Xperia Adaptive charging and the 12MP (f/1.8) + 8MP (f/2.2) + 8MP (f/2.4) rear triple camera system has been slightly updated to include better lens. Other notable changes/features include NFC, 5G and Bluetooth 5.1.
The device retains the same 6.0-inch FHD+ HDR OLED display with 60Hz refresh rate and 120Hz touch sampling rate. The rest of the specs remains pretty much the same as the Xperia 10 II, i.e., Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection (front and rear), 3.5mm audio jack, side-placed fingerprint sensor, Hi-Fi audio support, and IP65/68 dust and water resistance rating. It will go on sale by early Summer 2021 in Black, Blue, Pink, and White colours.
