Sony Xperia Z4 with 5.2-inch FHD display and Snapdragon 810 SoC goes official in Japan

Sony has taken the wraps off its next flagship smartphone – the Sony Xperia Z4. The Xperia Z4 succeeds the Sony Xperia Z3 but the device has only been announced for the Japanese market for now. There are talks of the company unveiling another smartphone for the rest of the world before the end of May.

The Sony Xperia Z4 keeps the same design as the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2; it has a slightly tweaked OmniBalance design with Aluminium metal frames around its edges in a 6.9mm thin body and a mixture of glass design body too. It keeps a two-layer resin around the edge to retain its strength and the design ensures it doesn’t lose it colour and shine.

Sony decided to stay with a Full HD display resolution deciding against joining the like of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and HTC One M9+ which both use a QHD resolution. It sports a 5-inch (1920 X 1080 pixels) Full HD Triluminos Display with Live Colour LED powered by X-Reality engine, powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor with Adreno 430 GPU, 3GB of RAM and 32GB sapce of internal storage. There is a microSD card slot on-board which allows storage expansion up to 128GB.

On the rear the device has a 20.7MP CMOS sensor Exmor RS camera which can record 4K videos and a 5.1MP front facing CMOS Exmor R sensor for selfies and video chats.  Connectivity options on the device includes – 4G LTE /3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11a / b / g / n / ac (2.4GHz / 5GHz) MIMO, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS/ GLONASS, MHL 3.0 and NFC. It also promises high performance audio quality and wireless playback thanks to Sony DSEE HX audio technology and LDAC codec.

The full dimensions stand at 146 × 72 × 6.9mm, weighs 144 grams, IP68 certification for Water and Dust proof and runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop OS with the company’s skin ontop. It is backed by a 2930mAh battery which is expected to last around 17 hours of continous talktime on 3G and also comes with STAMINa mode.

The Sony Xperia Z4 is available in four colour options – White, Black, Copper and Aqua Green. There is no word on pricing yet. As mentioned earlier, this is a Japanese exclusive so the rest of the world would be waiting for another Xperia device. Any guesses?
