Sony has officially announced the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact along with the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Premium. The 4.6-inch display sized packs an octa-core processor and would be available in Coral, Graphite Black, White and Yellow colours starting October 2015.
The Sony Xperia Z5 Compact sports a 4.6-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels (HD) with a pixel density of 323ppi, measures 127mm x 65mm x 8.9mm in dimensions, weighs 135 grams and is IP65/IP68 certified for dustproof and water proof.
Under the hood, it is powered by a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor with Adreno 430 GPU, 2GB of RAM and 32GB space of internal storage. There is a microSD card slot for storage expansion (up to 200GB cards) and the fingerprint scanner is located in the power/lock button.
Backed by a 2700mAh battery with quick charging and STAMINA mode, the Sony Xperia Z5 runs Android 5.1 Lollipop OS and has the same camera as the original Sony Xperia Z5 flagship and lasts up to two days of mixed usage.
Touching on the camera, it has a 5MP front camera with 25mm wide angle lens and a rear facing 23MP Exmor RS sensor with fast AutoFocus (0.03 second). Connectivity options on the device includes NFC, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.1 and Wi-Fi SISO.
There is no word on pricing and availability but the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact is expected to be prices lesser than the Sony Xperia Z5 and Sony Xperia Z5 Premium. The company is unlikely to release a Dual SIM version of the Z5 Compact.
