The privacy-centric Android OS powered smartphone, dubbed the Blackphone was announced earlier this year at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014 in February. The Blackphone, created by software company Silent Circle LLC in conjunction with Geeksphone, announced it sold several thousands of the device in a matter of weeks.
The Blackphone runs on a customised version of Android 4.4 Kitkat called the PrivatOS and is regarded as one of the world”s first smartphone which users have the ability to control their own privacy. The PrivatOS allows users send encrypted texts, make encrypted voice and video calls, and share files and folders using the secured cloud storage service SpiderOak.
The Blackphone features a 4.7-inch (1,280 x 720 pixels) IPS LCD display, powered by a 2GHz quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 4i processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of inbuilt expandable storage (up to 128GB via micro SD card). The smartphone also features a 8MP rear camera with Autofocus & LED flash and a 5MP front facing camera.
The Blackphone measures 141 x 69 x 9 mm (additional 2mm for the camera housing), weighs 119g and is powered by a 2000mAh battery. Connectivity option on the smartphone includes 4G LTE, 3G, micro USB, bluetooth Wi-Fi and familiar sensors.

The Blackphone is slated to start shipping as from July to customers who had already pre-ordered from the stores using the official link – store.blackphone.ch/. The privacy and security oriented smartphone has a price tag of $629 (around N103,000 in Naira) and is only available in Black Colour variant.
